The crucifix is fashioned from painted wood embellished by gilt carving and mother –of-pearl. The painted ivory image of Christ looks upwards with open eyes, with blood trickling from his forehead, palms, chest, knees and feet. The loin cloth is held together at the waist of the image by a knot and the edges of the cloth fall almost to the knees. The image is topped by a tablet bearing the initial INRI (Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews). The crucifix rests on a wooden pedestal/stand.
