Goa: Complex Past, Diverse Futures
On the occasion of World Heritage Day 17th April 2021, the Museum of Christian Art (MoCA), Goa and Goa Heritage Action Group (GHAG) jointly organized the first Heritage Hour on 'Goa: Complex Past, Diverse Futures'. The Speakers for the evening were Ar. Tahir Noronha and fadista Sonia Shirsat.
Tahir Noronha is the Convenor of The Charles Correa Foundation in Goa. His presentation on 'The Image of Old Goa', gives the audience a brief on the growth of the city. He also discusses the role that the various stakeholders play in conserving and promoting the heritage sites at Old Goa.
Sonia Shirsat has made a mark in the music scene in her home state and the country. Ms Shirsat has been called the Ambassador of Goan Music to the World. Her pet project Fado de Goa aims at protecting and preserving the Fado in Goa. In her presentation on the 'The Fate of the Fado', she speaks about the journey of the Fado, its origins, growth, how it peaked, dipped and then revived again, comparing the Fado story in Portugal and Goa.
