In this session, Deepti will be highlighting her work in the Western Himalayas over the past 6 years, a project that received the National Geographic grant in 2022. Her initiative focuses on the impact of the water crisis on young women in the state of Uttarakhand. It explores how global environmental issues intersect with local challenges, including deep-seated gender biases and treacherous terrain. In addition to her fieldwork, Deepti has been investigating traditional technologies with local experts.
Deepti Asthana is a multifaceted artist known for her roles as an independent photographer, filmmaker, educator, and National Geographic Explorer. Her work focuses primarily on gender and environmental issues within traditional Indian societies. In recognition of her talent and impact, Deepti was honoured with the World Press Photo award in 2020 under their esteemed Global Talent 6*6 program. Deepti Asthana's compelling visual storytelling has been featured in prestigious publications worldwide.
