Christian iconography in India and Lithuania developed within an authentic artistic tradition. This visual expression includes various forms of art (painting, sculpture, textiles and architecture). The lecture will present parallels between Christian motifs and symbols from Lithuania and India, highlighting their unique features. Special attention will also be paid to the influence of Mughal textile art on Lithuania’s Christian heritage.
Sigita Maslauskaite-Mazyliene (b. 1970) is a painter, art critic and diplomat. Her works prominently feature Christian iconography and culture. Her scholarly research focuses on the depiction of St Casimir and Lithuanian church heritage; common themes of her paintings include saints and war refugees. She participated in founding the Church Heritage Museum in Vilnius (2005) and led it for 13 years. Maslauskaite-Mazyliene has been the Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to the Holy See since 2022.
